Ukraine crisis, Ford Planning Close Plant

Jakarta - Ukraine condition is still hot . After the Ukrainian government was toppled and the Crimean region said he wanted to escape from the country , there are now other news . Ford said it is likely they are to close their factories in Russia because of unstable conditions .
Ford Sollers , Ford's joint venture in Russia said they might stop production of vehicles in one assembly plant for two months due to fragile economic conditions and geopolitical battles taking place in Ukraine .
Though the plant is not located in Ukraine , but in the near st Petersburg , Russia which manufactures the Focus and Mondeo . Ford reasoned , in addition to the unstable political conditions , their sales are also down there .
One reason is the weakening of the Russian economy following the problems in Ukraine , which in turn reduces the purchasing power of people . Moscow Exchange Index has fallen more than 17 percent since the unrest began . Meanwhile , the value of the Russian currency , the ruble also has fallen about 10 percent this year, which has led to the country's central bank raised interest rates .
Last year there were 2.78 cars were sold , down from 2.93 million cars sold in 2012 . And this year , the increase in sales figures is questionable . It would be noticed by the world's automotive giants .
Because Ford , General Motors Co. , BMW AG , Hyundai Motor Co. , Mazda Motor Corp. , Mitsubishi Group , PSA Peugeot Citroen , Renault - Nissan Alliance , Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen Group has invested a lot of money in Russia .
When combined , the automaker will spend about U.S. $ 10 billion to build new infrastructure or upgrading their facilities until 2020. As reported by the Detroit News .
